No, That's Not Ironic

I've written before on the grotesque misuse of the word "irony" by sportscasters.

But of course this problem exists in the rest of the world as well. For instance, in an otherwise fine post about 9/11 and Afghanistan, this author writes, "Six years ago (ironically enough, a Tuesday then as well), fifteen hijackers took over four civilian airliners."

In fact, that's not ironic at all. One might expect 9/11 to take place on a Tuesday approximately 1 out of every 7 years. It's a completely expected and predictable outcome. Thus, not ironic in the least.
