Marta and the New Women's Professional Soccer League

The NY Times has a great article up on Marta, the 23-year-old Brazilian soccer star who is one of many international women's players participating in the new Women's Professional Soccer league. It's a great article worth checking out, as it touches upon everything from gender and sports in Brazil (and the U.S.) to the value of strength and speed over technical skill in U.S. soccer to making sports work in the current economic crisis.

And to just get a sense of how good she is, you can see the goal Sokolove references at the beginning of the article here. It is, simply, one of the best I've ever seen.
