Coen Brothers Doing Remake of True Grit

I'm not sure what I think of this.

On one level, recent Coen Brothers movies that come from their own material haven't been particularly good. So moving into other people's stories might not be a bad thing. Certainly it worked for No Country for Old Men, their best movie in a decade. And I like the idea of the Coens doing westerns, which is a genre I believe suits their style well.

But a remake of True Grit? Jeff Bridges to play the John Wayne character? This is nothing against Bridges, but that movie is so tied in with old-style westerns and the ultimate old-timey western actor that it seems like a hell of a challenge.
