Ethanol

Ilan Goldenberg is absolutely right. Ethanol is no solution to climate change or getting us off foreign oil supplies and the experiment needs to stop now. Goldberg points us to a report showing that to get enough ethanol to fill one tank of an SUV, a person could live for a year. For one tank. Plus, recent studies have shown that the improvement on climate change emissions over gasoline are marginal at best and that widespread burning of ethanol may cause more air pollution.

Basically, ethanol is not a tenable idea. The price of corn has skyrocketed because of it, making it harder for cultures of corn-based poor people to pay for food. And even if we used all of our corn to make ethanol, it would add up to 12% of our yearly gasoline use.
