Teaching Sister Carrie?

I'm teaching a history of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era in the fall for the first time. I want to teach Dreiser's Sister Carrie but I forgot how long it was (400 pages or so). Is this just way too long? Should I switch to a shorter novel that would allow me to talk about women, like Chopin's The Awakening or Cather's My Antonia? What is the longest novel one would assign in an upper division course?

Any help would be most appreciated!
