For What It's Worth (Which Really Isn't Much...)

Apparently, there is a new competition for "The 7 New Wonders of the World" (I guess some people, in an effort for tourist money, decided that the 7 Wonders of the Ancient world were obsolete and all but 1 were gone, which is totally useless in a free-market economy). Thus, they've taken it upon themselves to have a contest to elect the 7 new wonders.

This could be awful, and some of the nominees aren't very good (the Sydney Opera House and the Statue of Liberty are excellent, but they aren't exactly "wonders"). However, overall, I must say, I'm impressed by the selections, which include Angkor Wat, Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza, The Great Wall of China, Petra, Timbuktu, St. Basil's, and others. I personally schill for Corcovado, for, while I am a bit partial, it is one of the more remarkable of the most "recent nominees" (it wasn't easy to get that statue built on top of a 2000 ft mountain in the 1920s). Naturally, this contest will just mean more income for countries based on tourism, but for those who are interested simply in seeing the list, check it out.

(And results will be announced on July 7 this year. Get it? 7 new wonders announced on 7-7-7!!! It's so clever).
