Erik's Random 10

Masada is one of John Zorn's most interesting projects. Zorn, the experimental saxophonist and composer at the center of New York's experimental scene, started the Masada project in the mid 1990s. He's always had a great interest in Jewish music and his own Jewish heritage. His label, Tzadik, has a Jewish music series that has produced some of the most interesting music I've heard this decade. The Masada project is the most prominent and popular of Zorn's Jewish music. Using Zorn's compositions and such amazing musicians as the violinist Mark Feldman, cellist Erik Friedlander, and bassist Greg Cohen, Masada creates beautiful music that is both aware of Jewish traditions and exploring new experimental territory. It's great stuff that I can't recommend highly enough.
