Bad Advice on Tornadoes

A student of mine just wrote a paper on the 1979 Wichita Falls tornado. She discovered that prior to this tornado, researchers recommended to people in their homes to open their windows during a tornado. I'm not sure exactly why this was the case but this advice was evidently widely followed and led to several of the 43 deaths in the storm when the wind got in the house and tore the roofs off. I should go read the article she cites on this to see just why.

Huh.
