Obama is a Token???? Please Excuse Me While I Vomit

Like a lot of Hillary supporters, Erica Jong frames her support with a gratuitous insult of Barack Obama. Jong's whole reason for supporting Clinton is because she's a woman. That's a bad reason to support a presidential candidate, but I guess I understand. But at the end, she claims:

You will also quote left-wing bloggers who love Barack Obama, and MoveOn.org peaceniks (I am one) who see no evil in him (nor do I). But I see little experience either. Obama is smart and attractive. Maybe he'll be president someday.

He was lucky enough not to be in the Senate when the Iraq war resolution was floated after then-Secretary of State Colin Powell lied about WMDs. That was the true tragedy of race: a black man lying for a corrupt white administration that was using him as a token, much as they use Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice now.

Obama is also a token -- of our incomplete progress toward an interracial society. I have nothing against him except his inexperience. Many black voters agree. They understand tokenism and condescension.

Whoa! Calling Barack Obama a token? That's not only insulting, but it's very much not true. Even Colin Powell wasn't a token--he was a very popular ex-general who was respected in the international community, at least before 2003. A token is the Republicans having J.C. Watts play a leading role at their convention. Barack Obama is not a token. People aren't voting for him because they want to give a little to the black man. They aren't voting for him out of white guilt. They are voting for him because they see him as the only candidate who could lead America on a new path. Not only does Jong insult the candidate, she insults all his supporters as well.

This really pisses me off. The best thing Hillary could do is tell her supporters to never speak publicly for her again. Every time they do, they say something incredibly stupid that just reinforces why so many of us do not want another 4 years of the Clintons.
