Tom Verducci Is Not Good

The baseball writers at the Sports Illustrated website really suck. This is opposed to their first rate football writers. But God Tom Verducci and Jon Heyman are terrible.

Not only are they completely dismissive of any statistic that actually explains baseball, but they are Yankee-obsessed to the max. Verducci's latest column is entitled "Monday's Five Cuts: Five Thoughts on the Indians-Red Sox Matchup and More." There's a decided emphasis on the More. For it's all about the Yankees!!!

Of his 5 points, 4 at least mention the Yankees while 2 are entirely about the Yankees. The only thing we learn about the upcoming ALCS is that Sabathia is a tough pitcher. Wow, I didn't know that.

There seems to have been this bizarre expectation that the Yankees would actually win the World Series this year. This was arguably the worst Yankees team in their 13 year playoff run and had the Tigers not completely plotzed in the second half, they likely would have not even made the playoffs. Yet for Verducci and so many others, baseball is the Yankees.

In related news, should we keep a count of how many times Tim McCarver mentions Derek Jeter in the upcoming FOX coverage, even though the Yankees won't be playing?
