Lyrad's Random 10

James McMurtry lives in Austin and is a regular up in Denton. I had the pleasure over this past Christmas Eve to see him at Dan's with Erik, who I assume had a good time, since he was with me. He's always a great show and his often politically-tinged songs bring out all the old lefties in town. For Texas, there are a lot of them.

This recording of "Fraulein O" is from his album Live in Aught-Three, which Erik reviewed a few years ago. It's a funny song, and not one of his political songs. It's about some woman he was interested in. Who knows if it's autobiographical, but the part of the song that has always struck me is strange. He sings:

Course you had that boyfriend
With the Cheverolet
He never met Will Rogers
I'd be willin' to say
It's safe to say
He never met Will Rogers

How does meeting Will Rogers make you sexier? I think it just makes you old.
