John Tierney REALLY Doesn't Want To Admit Global Warming Is A Problem, And Other Depressing Climate Change News

John Tierney is just desperate to find an easy solution to climate change. He doesn't want to admit that humans have created a global disaster. It could implicate his version of "free-market economics" and that's just not acceptable. So today, he writes in the Times that geoengineering is the answer. Like most of his articles, Tierney finds one person who is doing something he likes and latches on to it like a hungry baby to its mother. He wants the world to put 100 meter pipes in the ocean to mix water from the surface with water from the deep to create carbon dioxide absorbing algae blooms. He won't suggest what would really help--massive changes in our system of production and consumption, so he's looking for the easy way out. Not going to happen John.

But of course nothing is being done at all. Here we have this extremely depressing report with graphics about the surprisingly rapid decline of the Arctic ice this summer.

What's most depressing to me is this link from a writer at Kos showing the top 9 issues for voters right now. They are as follows:

1. Iraq
2. Health Care
3. Economy
4. Immigration
5. Terrorism
6. Frustration with Government
7. Education
8. Gas Prices
9. Taxes

At least some of those issues are really important to me too, but the fact that global warming is nowhere to be found shows how far we are as a nation from taking even baby steps toward addressing it. It's simply not on our radar screen. The right simply doesn't care while progressives are almost singularly focused on Iraq. But even if the war wasn't going on, I doubt climate change would spring to the top of everyone's list of concerns.

Meanwhile, climate change continues to grow everyday. We do nothing and the future of the planet is in serious doubt.

Have a happy day!
