Channeling Friedman

I had an interesting conversation with a cab driver about violence in San Salvador yesterday. If I was Tom Friedman, I´d take that single discussion and write an entire book based on it that consisted of platitudes about why the complex world is actually easy to understand, how America is a great nation, and how the future is bright.

Of course, that I´m not doing this has nothing to do with self respect (that´s certainly not it!), or because I can´t write as well as Friedman, but because I don´t have the elite connections that always allowed Friedman to have every advantage and write about whatever he wanted.
