Republican Candidates, circa 2012

Let's say the Republicans lose the election. Who are their candidates in 2012? Is there anyone? Jeb? Uh, the return of George Allen? Seriously, none of their curent candidates make any sense 4 years from now. Who are their top young senators? Are there any you can really take seriously? Their governors? Could be some obscure people from small states but certainly no one comes to mind.

Compare this to the Democrats 4 years ago. As soon as Kerry lost, it was obvious that Hillary, Richardson, and Obama would run. I didn't expect Edwards to run again, but I did expect Wesley Clark to run.

Even if the Democrats somehow manage to lose, look at them in 2012. Obama would clearly run again. Gore would still be around. Mark Warner would make a lot of sense. Small state governors like Brian Schweitzer (Montana), Janet Napolitano (Arizona), and Kathleen Sebelius (Kansas) would be potentially of interest. And this is just me thinking about this for 30 seconds. They would certainly have strong candidates.

The one Republican who would make sense is Schwarzenegger, but of course he can't run. Lindsay Graham maybe?

Flip through lists of current senators and governors. See if you can identify any good candidates there.

Very promising for the Democratic Party.
